The Story of Shag... The Shag is a legendary fast dance, derived from the jitterbug, that grew up in the red clay hills and coastal dunes of the Carolinas. In the late 30's and early 40's, the Shag was performed to the big band music of the Swing Era. Later, shaggers adopted the early rhythm and blues beats that would eventually become rock-n-roll. Although the Shag weathered a decline in popularity in the 1950's, it experienced a resurgence in the early 1970's. |
